Meet My Esthetician + Our Plan to Attack My Acne Issues

IMG-3880.JPG

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I’ve tried just about every trick in the book to try and get rid of my adult-onset acne that I’ve been dealing with for about 3 years now. I’ve tried every expensive skincare line, weird diet, change to makeup routine, prescription pill, etc. to the point of purely exhausting myself (and my bank account) and honestly just kind of deciding this was just going to be my skin now.

In all of that, I somehow never considered reaching out to an esthetician. I had never been to one before and clearly had NO clue what a facial really entailed (it’s like wayyy more amazing than a little 10 minute facial peel like I thought haha) or how much they can help out with a huge variety of skin issues. Enter my newest best friend: Raquel.

If you’re local to the OKC area, Raquel works out of Skinlab Injectables in Oklahoma City and is just incredible. She makes facials an entire experience- more than just what she’s doing to your face, she really takes the time to listen to you as a person, learn your insecurities, and speak to your soul as much as she works on your body. She’s introduced me to some incredible meditations, nutritionists, pharmacists, etc. as well as new skincare regimens and procedure options. I’ve grown accustomed to listening to a meditation each time I’m in her office, and I’m telling ya- I have never left another place on this planet more full of light, love, and positivity which I think makes as much difference in the health of my skin (and entire body) as anything else!

Alongside getting regular facials and trying out her custom-blend skincare products, we have also decided to commit to weekly LED light therapy treatments for 6-8 weeks to help heal my acne. Honestly, it mostly seems like magic to me haha but the basic premise is that it uses different wavelengths to create an anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory response for the skin to reduce acne, acne scarring, inflammation, and promote anti-aging effects. I do a combination of red and blue light and try to go twice a week (it only takes about 20-30 minutes).

We are two weeks in so far with the light treatments, and here’s a look at the progress so far- no makeup, no filter in both images. I didn’t even realize that was reducing fine lines and wrinkles as well until I looked at these pics! I feel like my skin has looked even better than it does today in the past few days, but I accidentally ate dairy a few days ago (I’m allergic) so it caused a few more breakouts than have been occurring in recent weeks. I will keep monitoring progress with this as we go!

We are just getting started, but I can already tell such a difference in the integrity of my skin, the frequency/severity of my breakouts, and the scarring as well. It almost feels like it’s a completely different color or something, but I haven’t tanned or done anything differently for that. I think it’s just looking a lot healthier now and has increased blood flow!

Not to sound dramatic, but having an Esthetician I can trust has been truly life-changing for me. If you’ve ever struggled with acne, you know how frustrating it can be. It’s so nice to go to someone who truly cares for me and my skin and isn’t just trying to up-sell me some new product line that hasn’t been researched. If you’re local to OK and have been struggling with your skin in any way, I can’t recommend Raquel enough! You can schedule an appointment with her by calling Skinlab Injectables.
